How to Share Kaleidoscope Videos on WhatsApp

To share a kaleidoscope video on WhatsApp, open it in Pattern: Kaleidoscope Camera, tap Share, choose “For Instagram / WhatsApp · 9:16,” then select WhatsApp from your phone’s share sheet. Choose your recipient, check the preview, and send. Pattern prepares the file; you finish sending it in WhatsApp.

1. Open the saved video

Tap the album icon beside the shutter in Pattern, open the Videos tab, and tap the clip you want to send. Play it before sharing so you can check that you picked the right recording. Tap Share in the video viewer to open the export choices. You can also use the Share button that appears briefly after a new capture. Both routes let you choose between the original file and a separate copy prepared for a vertical layout.

2. Choose the 9:16 sharing copy

Tap “For Instagram / WhatsApp · 9:16.” Pattern prepares a 1080 × 1920 portrait copy and fits the entire recorded picture inside it. When the original proportions leave extra space, the app fills that space with an enlarged, softened, darker version of the same image. The main picture stays visible without cropping. This is useful when you want a vertical presentation while keeping the edges of the kaleidoscope pattern. The saved original remains available in Pattern.

3. Let preparation finish

Keep Pattern open while the “Preparing…” percentage appears. The app plays through the video to make the new copy, so preparation takes time; it is more than a filename change. Tap the option once and wait for your phone’s share sheet instead of starting another export while one is running. You do not need to save a second item to Pattern’s album first. The prepared file goes directly to system sharing, where you choose the app that should receive it.

4. Finish sending in WhatsApp

Select WhatsApp in the phone’s share sheet, then choose the intended person or group. Check the destination and video preview before tapping Send. Pattern’s sharing option does not select a contact or send a message automatically. If you close the share sheet, return to the video and try again when you are ready. Treat the appearance of the share sheet as the handoff between apps; check the conversation in WhatsApp to confirm that the video was actually sent.

When to choose the original instead

Choose “Original · highest quality” when you want to share the saved recording with its original proportions and without Pattern’s extra conversion. For example, if you prefer the framing you already see in the video viewer, try that file first. The 9:16 option is useful for changing the presentation, but it does not add detail to the recording or guarantee a smaller file. The “highest quality” label describes Pattern’s original export choice; WhatsApp can still process the video afterward.

Choose quality inside WhatsApp

WhatsApp’s Help Center explains that shared media is usually compressed, so the sent video may look softer than the saved recording. Where the HD control is available in the sending preview, choose HD quality before sending. You can also set a preference in WhatsApp Settings, then Storage and data, then Media upload quality. Select HD quality there. This setting is separate from Pattern’s export choice: one controls the file Pattern hands over, while the other controls WhatsApp’s media quality setting. Check the received result before relying on it for fine detail.

Attach a saved video from inside WhatsApp

If the direct handoff is awkward, use Save in Pattern’s video viewer to save the recording to your phone’s gallery, then open the intended WhatsApp chat and attach it from Gallery on Android or Photos on iPhone. Wait for Pattern’s save confirmation before looking for the file. This Save action saves the original recording; it does not create the prepared 9:16 sharing copy. On iPhone, WhatsApp’s Help Center recommends saving media to the device first when you want to edit it before sending from another app.

If WhatsApp rejects the video

The 9:16 option is not a guarantee that every device will produce a file WhatsApp accepts. Pattern tries MP4 output first, but it can fall back to WebM depending on device support. WhatsApp’s Help Center lists MP4 among its supported video formats. If the prepared copy is rejected, return to the same clip and try Original once. If neither version works, keep the saved recording and consult WhatsApp’s Help Center for sending problems. Repeatedly choosing 9:16 does not give you a manual format selector.

Check where the problem starts

Use the troubleshooting table to separate a Pattern preparation problem from a WhatsApp sending problem. If Pattern shows “Couldn’t open sharing,” first check whether the original clip still plays in its viewer. If the phone’s share sheet opened successfully, continue checking the destination app rather than recording the scene again immediately. After sending, play the video in the conversation and inspect the moving pattern as well as the first frame. Keep the original until you are satisfied with the version your recipient can open.

Frequently asked questions

Can I prepare several 9:16 videos at once?

Pattern’s gallery has bulk sharing, but that route shares the selected originals without opening the original-or-9:16 choice. To prepare vertical copies, open each video individually and use Share from its viewer.

Do I need to select 9:16 before recording?

No. This option is available after recording. Pattern captures the proportions of its drawing area and offers a separate 9:16 sharing copy afterward. There is no capture ratio selector to set for this workflow.

Why does my video have no sound?

Pattern records its kaleidoscope videos without microphone audio, and its prepared sharing copy has no audio track. Silence in the WhatsApp video does not by itself mean the transfer failed. Add sound separately if you need it.

Will WhatsApp Status use the same HD setting as a chat?

WhatsApp’s Help Center says HD media is not currently available for Status updates. Treat a Status post separately from a chat attachment, and preview its framing before posting. Pattern’s vertical copy does not override WhatsApp’s Status quality settings.

Turn your camera into a kaleidoscope. PATTERN builds a living, fluid symmetry out of one small core square in the middle of your screen. Save photos and videos; nothing leaves your device.
